This is a little local place that the kids absolutely love going to for lunch or a wee hot chocolate and cake. Moyra Janes is an adorable, welcoming wee haven tucked away in Pollokshields, serving up heartwarming lunches, also breakfasts and dinners, freshly made cakes and by my kids account, the best hot chocolates in Glasgow. It’s my kids’ favourite little treat spot, but it’s also a place you could take your gran and she would love it too.

Moyra Janes menu has your scrambled eggs, full breakfast and some really good eggs benedict, plus they also open for evening meals as well, though we’ve never been for dinner. We tend to go for lunch if we are heading there, because their lentil soup is the absolute bomb. Like having a warm hug on your insides. Now. Lentil soup generally is, objectively, the best soup; nothing can beat it. But there’s still a scale of how good it actually is and Moyra Janes’ always hits the mark.

They always have a few other soup options on the specials board though if (your taste buds are wrong and) you don’t like lentil soup. They also do burgers, salads, potatoes, sandwiches or paninis and a pretty good mac and cheese; all freshly made. They have a small but decent kids menu too – mine usually get the kids mac and cheese, and save some room for a bit of cake afterwards. Or maybe an ice cream…

Which brings me to cake. No visit to Moyra Janes is complete without a bit of their cake. I’ll be honest, we’ve tried a few in our numerous visits. Their red velvet cake is the kids favourite, and the oreo cheesecake is a very close second. The biscoff cheesecake though – that’s the one for me!

Have to also give a special shout out to their deluxe hot chocolates; topped with marshmallows, chocolate flakes and cream – this is an absolute hit with the kids. For their birthday last summer, the only thing one of them asked to do was go to Moyra Janes for hot chocolate and cake. In 20ºC heat.

The Verdict

The staff in Moyra Janes are super friendly and great with the kids. The menu offers something for everyone, the food is great and it’s a lovely, cosy atmosphere. Whether you’re in for a meal or you’re just having a wee hot chocolate treat, Moyra Janes is a good one.
