One of our brillint wee finds from this attempt at visiting all the parks within Glasgow Council area is definitely the Gruffalo Trail at Mount Vernon Park. My kids had been here with my mum & dad a few times as they live over that end of the city, but I had no idea it even existed!

From the outside Mount Vernon Park looks pretty much like a big bit of grass (with a decent sledging hill at one side FYI!) It has a community centre within the park, plus a wee play park and a football court.

However if you’re beside the community centre and you turn around towards the woods, head up the wee path into the woods behind you and you will find the Gruffalo, owl, fox and a bunch of other lovely wooden carvings from the book.

There’s also a wooden train station with two wooden trains, and a wooden play area with climbing bits and assault course style stuff. If you head along the ‘road’ back towards the community centre you’ll also find a wooden boat and a mud kitchen right next to the community centre. (The last time we were here this bit was in the process of getting fenced off, I assume for the safety of any wee ones who are playing in the ship or mud kitchen.)

This place is an absolute wee hidden gem. I’m so glad we found it. My pair keep asking to go back!

I’m rating all these parks as we go and as a whole, Mount Vernon Park gets a solid 6/10. The Gruffalo trail and all the play bits get a 10/10 though. They are absolutely brilliant. Highly recommend!

Mount Vernon Park is located at Kenmuir Ave. Mount Vernon train station is less than a 5 minute walk round the corner.
